Tax compliance is the floor, not the service
By Andrew Isaacs, CIMA Member in Practice ·
If the only thing your accountant gives you is a tax return, you are getting a fraction of what you pay for. Filing keeps you compliant, and compliance is the floor, not the service.
Fifty five per cent of UK small business owners say they struggle with cash flow management (Xero survey, 2025). A tax return does nothing for that. It looks backward, records what already happened, and never tells you what to do next. <img class="shot" style="max-width:440px;margin:34px auto 0;display:block" src="/assets/img/blog-tax-compliance-is-the-floor-not-the-service-ig.jpg" width="440" loading="lazy" alt="AI Finance Partners infographic, A tax return keeps you legal. The other half
The value is in the part most people never buy, management accounts, cashflow, margin, a plan, and a qualified person you can actually ask. Tax is backward looking. A finance partner looks forward and helps you change the outcome.
We do the tax, but that is not the point
We prepare and sign your returns. But the point is helping the business become the best version of itself, which is a conversation, not a filing. Expect more from your accountant than compliance.
