There is more in your year end accounts than a filing
By Andrew Isaacs, CIMA Member in Practice ·
Every limited company has to file year end accounts. It is the legal minimum, and for a lot of owners it is the only finance they ever see. That is the problem, because the accounts hold a whole year of information about how the business is really doing, and most of it never gets explained.
Nearly two in five UK small business owners say they did not know whether their business was profitable in the previous month (Xero survey, 2025). If the owner cannot say that, the year end certainly is not telling them. <img class="shot" style="max-width:440px;margin:34px auto 0;display:block" src="/assets/img/blog-your-year-end-accounts-are-worth-more-than-a-filing-ig.jpg" width="440" loading="lazy" alt="AI Finance Partners infographic, Your statutory accounts are the legal minimum, but they hold a year of data most owners never hear read back. What the year end actually shows
At the top level, your accounts give turnover, gross and net margin, overheads, cash and debtor days. That is a real picture of the year, summed up in one place. What it does not show is the detail underneath, which client or which service actually pays. For that you need management accounts, a different and more regular piece of work.
What most accountants do with it
They prepare it, file it, send an invoice, and say see you in twelve months. The insight, such as it is, goes in a drawer.
What we do differently
We read the same accounts against your own trend, your ratios and your sector, so the year end says something useful. And while we are in your numbers, we show you what regular management accounts would add through the year. The filing is the by product. The conversation about your numbers is the point.
